Solar panel cleaning in Blackburn and Darwen: pure water and soft brushes lift pollen, traffic film, lichen and bird droppings without chemicals or pressure, so your array puts out what it should. Homes, landlords and businesses across BB1 to BB3.
Tell us how many panels you have and your postcode in Blackburn and we will come back to you the same day.
Bird droppings, pollen, farm dust, traffic film and lichen all build up on panels, and rain alone does not shift them. Every layer of dirt is light that never reaches the cells. A clean array generates more, and most manufacturers expect panels to be kept clean to keep the warranty valid.
We clean with purified, deionised water fed up a pole to a soft brush. No detergents, no pressure, nothing that can scratch the glass or damage the seals.
We look at the panels, fixings and access before starting and note anything you should know about.
Deionised water and a soft brush lift the dirt without scratching or leaving residue.
A final pure water rinse leaves the glass spotless. We check the array and send you the photos.
Most panels want cleaning once a year. We can put you on a reminder or an annual plan.
Three things, mostly. Moss coming down off the roof tiles, which is a given on any shaded or north-facing roof under the west Pennine moors. Traffic film from the M65 and the main roads, which is greasy and bonds to the glass. And bird mess, which is the worst of the lot because it is dense, acidic and lands in exactly the wrong places.
The pattern we see on most Blackburn roofs is a dark line along the bottom edge of each panel where rain has drained to the frame and left everything it was carrying. That strip shades the bottom row of cells, and thanks to how panels are wired internally the output loss is much greater than the area suggests.
Rain rinses loose dust and leaves the bonded film, then deposits the rest at the frame. More rain means a heavier line, not a cleaner array. Nothing about a wet Lancashire winter cleans a solar panel.
We use purified, deionised water and a soft brush on a pole, working from the ground. No chemicals, no detergents, no pressure washing and no walking on panels. Deionised water dries without leaving spots because there is nothing in it to leave behind.
Nothing abrasive touches the glass and nothing is forced around the seals, which is what manufacturers specify in their maintenance guidance and what protects your warranty.
On a mossy roof, cleaning the panels alone lasts about a season. The growth on the tiles keeps washing down onto the array. Doing roof cleaning in Blackburn and the panels together is the sensible order and works out cheaper than two visits.
It is also worth clearing the gutter below the array while the kit is on site, because that is where the moss ends up.
The gap between the panels and the tiles is dry and sheltered, and pigeons will nest there. Once they do you get mess down the panel faces, blocked gutters and noise. Perimeter mesh after a clean is the permanent fix.
Once a year suits most arrays in Blackburn and Darwen. Twice if the roof is under trees, if it is heavily shaded, or if there is a pigeon or gull problem nearby.
Book it for late winter or early spring if you are only doing it once, so the array is clean for the high generation months rather than being cleaned after them.
Panel count, roof height, access. Those three set the price. Send us the number of panels and your postcode for a fixed quote, usually the same day, and tell us if you want the roof or gutters doing at the same time so it can be priced as one visit.
While cleaning we keep an eye on the condition of the array: cracked glass, clouding, a panel sitting proud, failed bird proofing, branches growing into the shading line and the state of the gutter underneath. You get told, at no extra cost, and you can decide what to do about it.
Electrical parts are left to your installer. We clean glass, we do not touch inverters or isolators.
Is it safe? Pure water and a soft brush, no chemicals, no pressure, nobody on the panels. That is the manufacturers own guidance.
How much will it help? On an array that has never been cleaned, a lot. On one done last spring, less. Either way the bottom edge line is where most of the gain comes from.
Do I need to be in? No, as long as we can reach the property and get to an outside tap if needed. We will send photos when it is done.
Blackburn and Darwen are wet, and the panels on the estates around Feniscowles, Lammack, Wilpshire and up the hills in Darwen show it: a grey band of dirt along the bottom edge of every panel where the rain leaves it, lichen along the frames, traffic film from the M65 and bird droppings all year. Rain does not clean a panel, it just moves the dirt about.
We clean with purified, deionised water fed up a pole to a soft brush. No detergent, no pressure washer, no abrasives, nobody walking on the array. The pure water lifts the film and rinses without a residue, which is what the panel manufacturers ask for and what keeps the warranty intact.
A clean is also a check. We look at the glass, the fixings and the cabling, look for nests under the panels, and send you the photos with anything you need to know. Pigeons under the panels are common on the newer estates and their droppings on the glass above are the worst thing for output.

“Great service from Peter/his team. We had our solar panels cleaned thoroughly and ours and our neighbour's gutters cleared. A very professional service and competitive pricing. Would highly recommend.”
“Found Hydro Cleanse on facebook after looking at his previous work I thought I would ask him to come and have a look at the house. Two other companies that quoted me wanted to charge for either scaffolding or a cherry picker to clean the roof because to the awkward angles. Peter has his own mobile scaffolding which made a massive difference the price. They cleaned the roof/gutters/conservatory all chemically treated and soft washed some rendering at the front which had come up amazing. Highly recommend will definitely be having them back to clean our solar panels and astroturf in the back garden.”
“I am so pleased with the work carried out by Hydro Cleanse to remove moss growth on the roof of our house. The house has a large extension to the side and rear. The steam cleaning is done without any need to stand on the roof. It is done from a scaffold tower and extendable pole. Both lads were hard working and competent throughout. I am sure more work will come their way by the results from this project. Highly Recommended 👌”
Not the way we do it. Pure water and soft brushes only, no pressure washers, no chemicals, and we do not walk on the panels.
