The Irwell valley effect

Concrete interlocking tiles: the local workhorse

Up the valley towards Ramsbottom and Holcombe you are higher, windier and closer to open moorland, so you get more spores blowing in and more debris in the gutters. Roofs up there generally want doing every three to four years and the gutters annually.

Down in Whitefield and Prestwich it is more sheltered and more wooded, which trades wind for leaf fall and shade. Different cause, similar answer.
