Driveway and patio cleaning in Preston, Fulwood and Penwortham: block paving, tarmac, concrete and Indian stone pressure washed, moss and weeds treated, then re-sanded and sealed. Homes, landlords and commercial premises.

Driveways and patios in the North West take a beating: rain, moss, weeds between the joints, oil drips and tyre marks. Left alone they turn green and slippery. We use commercial-grade pressure washers with the pressure and nozzle matched to the surface, so block paving is not scarred and tarmac is not lifted.
After the clean we treat the surface with a biocide to slow regrowth, re-sand block paving joints with kiln-dried sand, and seal where you want extra protection and a richer colour.
We check the surface type, the joints and any staining, and pick the right pressure, nozzle and treatment for it.
A thorough pressure wash with commercial equipment lifts the growth, dirt and stains without damaging the surface.
A biocide keeps the growth off for longer. Block paving is re-sanded, and we seal the surface if you want a longer-lasting finish.
Drains are cleared, beds and paths are rinsed, and you get before and after photos.
Preston is flatter and more exposed than the east Lancashire towns, with damp air coming in off the Ribble estuary and the coastal plain. Around a metre of rain a year, and a lot of wind with it.
Drives here stay wet because the air is wet, not because a valley is shading them. The outcome is the same: a dark algae film across block paving and flags that is slippery as soon as it rains.
Moss takes hold in the joints afterwards, particularly on the shaded side of the house and anywhere water lies.
Preston has more new housing than anywhere else we work, and that means a great deal of block paving at Cottam, Broughton, Ingol, Buckshaw and the developments north of the city.
Block paving is a straightforward clean with one condition: the jointing sand must be replaced afterwards. It is structural, and washing it out and leaving it out is the reason so many cleaned drives look poor two years later.
A lot of those estate drives are also quite light in colour, which makes the algae film far more obvious than it would be on a darker block.
Fulwood, Ashton, Penwortham and Longridge have more concrete and stone flags, more tarmac and more mature trees overhead.
Tarmac gets much lower pressure than people expect. Too much lifts the bitumen and leaves a loose pitted surface. Stone flags and their pointing want the lance kept off the joints entirely.
Trees bring leaf fall and tannin staining, which is not algae and does not respond the same way to treatment.
A rotary surface cleaner across the whole area, which keeps pressure and distance constant and gives an even finish. Lance work only for edges, corners and spot treatment.
Then the surface is treated to kill what is left in the joints and pores, then block paving is resanded with kiln-dried sand.
Gullies and channel drains are cleared before we leave, because a drive clean moves a lot of silt towards them.
There is a lot of imprinted concrete on Preston drives from the 2000s boom. The pattern is in the concrete but the colour and the sealer are surface layers.
Cleaned too hard, it comes out patchy and grey and then needs resealing to look right, which costs more than the clean did. We clean it at low pressure and will talk to you about resealing if the existing sealer has already gone.
Oil and diesel soak into block and concrete instead of sitting on top, so they need a degreaser and time rather than a bigger machine. Fresh spills usually clear completely. Old ones typically lighten rather than disappear.
Tyre rubber, scuffing and gum come off as part of the standard clean.
One to two years for most Preston drives, annually under trees or on the shaded side. Treating after the clean is what carries it through the winter.
Sealing sound block paving is worthwhile and lasts two to three years here. On a drive that is sinking or breaking up it is money wasted.
Fixed price in writing. Cheaper alongside the roof or render in one visit.
Preston has more new-build block paving than almost anywhere in Lancashire, and it all goes the same way. The drives on the estates in Fulwood, Cottam and Buckshaw Village turn green in the joints within a few years, the Indian stone patios in Penwortham and Longridge go black on the shaded side, and the older tarmac drives in Ribbleton and Ashton collect moss along the kerb.
We clean each surface at the right setting: a commercial pressure washer with a rotary surface cleaner on block paving, stone and concrete, and a lower, angled pressure on tarmac so nothing lifts. Weeds and moss are killed at the root rather than rinsed off, so they take far longer to return.
Block paving is re-sanded with kiln-dried sand once dry, which keeps the blocks locked and the weeds out, and sealing is available on block paving, stone and concrete to hold the colour and shed the rain. Drains, beds and paths are rinsed and tidied before we go.

“Hydro did a brilliant job over two days of restoring my tarmac front drive, flags and bricked walls and steps to such an extent that they all looked as if they had just been built once finished. They also did the same in the garden with our Indian stone and concrete flags. Peter and Steve worked tirelessly throughout despite cold Rossendale wind and rain. I would highly recommend them.”
“Transformation! Peter did a fantastic job jet washing (then chemical treating) my yard and patio. The patio now looks like it was laid yesterday - no word of a lie. Peter is such a nice chap and a real hard worker - well worth the money and I will certainly be having him back again. Thank you so much and I shall be recommending you to others too. 👍👍👍”
“Our large block paved drive area and surrounding flagged areas now look like new!! All done professionally, efficiently and to the correct timescale. Value for money and well worth waiting for - I will use this company every time in future. Cannot recommend them highly enough!”
Not when it is done properly. We match the pressure and nozzle to the surface and re-sand the joints afterwards, which is the part most people skip.
Yes. Re-sanding of block paving joints is part of the job, and sealing is an option we recommend for block paving and Indian stone.
With the biocide treatment, typically a year or two before green growth starts to return, longer if sealed. An annual clean keeps it looking new.
Most oil, rust and tyre marks can be lifted or greatly reduced with the right treatment. Very old, deep oil stains may lighten rather than disappear completely, and we will tell you which before we start.
